Kaleider 5.8 is primarily focused on updating the audio and video features of Kaleider, including the 'movie' animations that can be played in the main window to serve as source images for effects. Various other fixes and improvements. Further details follow:
Audio Player and
Video Player had previously used the Microsoft
DirectShow API to play Audio and Video files. DirectShow
used filters to render the various media codecs that Audios and Videos are
encoded with. But if the necessary filter for a codec was not
installed on the computer, the file could not be played. Kaleider 5.8
will first try to play Audio and Video files by using the more recent Microsoft
Media Foundation API, which can process most of the common media codecs without the
need for filters. Then, if for some reason a file cannot be played by the Media
Foundation, the program will automatically try to play the Audio or Video
using DirectShow. If a file still fails to play, it might be helpful to
download and install a free codec package like K-Lite, which can sometimes provide the
missing codecs.
This also applies for Videos
that are played in the main Kaleider window, and upon which effects can be
rendered. Initially, the Media Foundation is used to load a Video
file, but if that fails DirectShow will automatically be used to attempt to render
the Video. While a Video (or other moving source) is playing in the
main window, appropriate Movie Controls
are shown in the upper right corner of the Kaleider screen.
improvements have also been made to the
Image Sequence Player. A slider has been added to allow quickly scanning
through the Frames to different positions within the Image Sequence.
