Kaleider 4.0
- New Features
As usual, many of the improvements with version 4.0 were prompted by customer
suggestions. Many thanks for all your ideas and comments! Here is a
summary of Kaleider 4.0 enhancements:
- Undo/Redo => This adds the ability to
Undo/Redo multiple levels of effects, making it much easier to produce
'compound' effects, in which effects are applied on top of already rendered
effects. Buttons labeled Un (for Undo) and Re (for
Redo) are available on Kaleid Tools. The old Redo
function is now called Remake. There was an unintended limitation
with the last version that caused only the last effect of a compound-effect image
to be applied when rendering a full-scale image -- that should be fixed now.
By the way, the Full-Scale Window is now called the Upscale Window
(to be consistent with Liquib).
-
Curvy 3D Rooms => New Sphere, Torus and Pipe
Rooms show effects tiled onto
curved surfaces. The old Squat Room has been demolished, since it was
too similar to the Corner Room. It is now possible to travel outside
the confines of Rooms, into the blackness of space, to view the exterior
surfaces of Rooms. Just keep the CTRL key pressed while navigating
with the numeric keypad keys. There is also a new option to use the Arrow
keys for Rooms navigation.
-
Scripting
=> The new Scripting
feature provides the ability to record and replay sequences of Kaleider
effects and actions, making it possible to compose performances of dynamic
art. Recorded Sequences can be saved to files. A Script
Control and Editing screen provides options for loading, saving and editing
Script Files and Recorded Sequences. Several sample Script
Files are included with the trial download.
- Random Music => The Audio Player
now has a Random option so that audio files
in directories or CD tracks can be played in random order, rather than sequentially.
-
Auto Effects => The Automatic Effects Configuration screen has been
redesigned to provide options for including Scripted Sequences.
Auto Effects can now consist of a mixture of Random Effects and
Scripted Sequences in any combination, from totally random to entirely
scripted. A new Mixture option randomly chooses from standard
Tiling and the selected Center, Mandala and Rooms
options. Audio Options includes a Random setting to play music in
random sequence during Automatic Effects.
- Multiple Monitors => A Multiple Monitors
Display option has been added so that Kaleider generated effects can
be tranmitted to any secondary monitors attached to a computer. Menus,
controls, cursors, source images, effect outlines, etc. only appear on the primary
display, so that just the final results are seen on secondary screens.
- Keyboard Commands => As with Liquib,
typing the Y key will toggle on/off the appearance of Keyboard Commands next
to their corresponding buttons. A few commands have been changed to be more
'rational' and more consistent with my other programs: The Left and Right
Arrow keys now correspond to Previous and Next Image, while the Up and Down Arrow
keys represent Next and Previous Color Shifts. A few new commands have been
added: Type the \ key to randomly render a currently selected effect
(highlighted in gray now). Type the / key to pause and single-step through
actions (Auto Effects, Wandering, Roaming, etc.). The
P key will hide/show the cursor, and there is also a Hide Cursor option in
the View Menu.
