Many professional (and serious amateur) photographers use the IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council) Standard to encode their photograph image files with descriptive information.  Originally designed for use by news agencies when transmitting news story images, IPTC includes such items as Caption/Headline, Description/Comments, Creator/Byline, Copyright, Keywords, etc.  Phota provides convenient access to this data from the Photo Information screen.  Image files (JPEG, TIFF, PNG, PSD and DNG formats) encoded with either the legacy IPTC IIM Standard or the more recent IPTC Core XMP Standard will be recognized.

Image files might also contain encoded EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) data.  EXIF information is often stored within image files created by digital cameras, and includes technical parameters that describe the photograph, such as Camera Make and Model, Date and Time Taken, Image Width and Height, Aperture, etc.

It is also possible to load album Photo Description items from relevant IPTC and EXIF fields according to specifications defined via the Photo Image Data Mapping screen.  Both the Photo Information and the Add Photos screens include options for loading from stored IPTC/EXIF image data.
